Joseph G. Sledge, a native of New York and resident of Fairhope, AL, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at the age of 82.

Joseph served in the United States Navy.  He retired from Bellsouth and then worked with his son as a carpenter building houses and was an avid woodworker.  He loved working and loved to stay busy.  He was also known as a “character” to those who knew him well.  Joseph was a loving husband and father, devout Catholic and a dedicated family man.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Eileen Sledge; six children, Catherine, Joe, Dennise, Bernadette, Terrence and Brian; fourteen grandchildren, Justin, Spencer, Matthew, Lauren and Julia Feldmann, Frances, Jack and Charlie Sledge, Rachael, Noah, Christopher and Olivia Wolstenholme and Sophia and Gabriel Daya; and three great-grandchildren, Braxton, Anna Lei and Ellie Jenkins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, November 18, 2022 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 370 S. Section Street in Fairhope, AL, at 11:30. There will be a time of visitation before the service beginning at 10:30AM. Interment will follow at Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, AL.
