In Loving Memory

Joshua Wayne Newell

August 15, 1984 - August 16, 2020

Joshua Wayne Newell, 36, a native and lifetime resident of Mobile, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 16th, 2020. A loving husband, father, and loyal friend, he will be forever remembered by his contagious smile, jolly laugh, how he always had a good story to tell, and never met a stranger. He felt most at peace when he was on the water or fishing. At home, he was master of the grill and took great pride in his ability to cook anything on it; which his wife and lab, Lucy, loved and appreciated. Above all, his most cherished times were those spent with his little girl, his daughter, Amelia.

Josh was loved dearly and will always be remembered by his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his dear grandmother, Gail Claire Newell. He is survived by his wife, Rachel Newell, whom he met and fell in love with ten years ago; his precious daughter, Amelia Claire Newell (two); one brother, Daniel Newell; and many dear friends he loved like family; especially Phillip Bruner and Ryan McKee.

There will be a private memorial service for the immediate family. In the lieu of flowers, please send donations to Wilmer Hall Children’s Home at

Expressions of condolence for the family may be made at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL, is assisting the family.
