Kathleen Elizabeth (Bates) Pope was born in Birmingham, Alabama to parents, Emmett David Bates and Dorothy (Horner) Bates on April 23, 1939. She went on to be with her best friend and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 23, 2019. She graduated from Shades Valley High School in Birmingham, AL and attended the University of Alabama where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. Kathleen then worked at the UAB Medical Center where she met the love of her life, David Hyatt Pope, who was attending Medical School. They were married for 58 wonderful years.
Kathleen is survived by her beloved husband, David Pope; two sons, David Pope, Jr., Ben Pope and his wife, Lora; two daughters, Elizabeth Pope Kennemer and husband, Kevin, Carolyn Pope Katechis and husband, Kevin; nine grandchildren, Sarah Pope Adams and husband, Coers, Kristin Pope Taylor and husband, Douglas, Ben Pope, Jr., Nick Pope, Emma Pope, Caleb Kennemer, Katie Kennemer, Holden Katechis and Nia Katechis; two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Taylor and Douglas Taylor; and many other relatives and friends.
She lived her life by Ephesians 4:32 – “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

Dear David and family, We were so sorry to hear about Kathleen but know she is in Heaven with her Heavenly Father. We treasure the years with her and David as friends and will miss her. We will be praying for you, David that God will be with you.
Thank you for all your love, and prayers. I miss her so much, but God is sufficient, and I know that we will be rejoined in heaven before too long.

Dr Pope, So sorry to hear of Kathleen’s passing. I know how hard it is. We are praying for your entire family. She was a wonderful Christian lady and witness. Having lost Mother to Dementia,we know what a difficult journey it is. Prayers for the entire family💜💜
Kathleen and I were best friends all through high school. We spent many hours together. I had not seen her in years but will always have sweet memories. Take care David. My thoughts are with you and your family.
David, our Stacy sent us the announcement. We have such wonderful memories of our times together in Dothan. I’m very sad that we lost touch in the later years. You were a wonderful witness to Melinda during the times she spent with Elizabeth in your home. She would always come home remarking about your devotionals around the table, etc. Will pray for you and your children as you adjust to this new phase.
