Lida Maxim Muench, 95, of Spanish Fort Alabama, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on July 26, 2026. She lived a full life, was loved by all, and will be deeply missed.
Lida was born in Lewiston, Maine, the daughter of Harry and Marguerite (Doucet) Maxim. She graduated from the University of Maine in 1953 where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. A devout Catholic, her faith never wavered.
Her greatest love was Jerry, her husband of 50 years, and her family. They, however, were closely followed by her love of chocolate and Klondike bars. She enjoyed traveling – visiting many places throughout the world. Lida showcased her creative talents through her many hobbies including ceramics, dried flower arrangements, painting, and decoupage, to name a few. Lida also loved to play bridge, cribbage, and aggravation with her many friends; still playing at the time of her passing.
As the wife of a Naval Officer, Lida had many adventures, living in 11 states. moving frequently (about every 2 years) and raising her children while Jerry was at sea. Quite a feat with 6 children! During one move from South Carolina to California, the family spent more than thirty days camping across the country in a VW bus camper and tent. They visited several national parks and historic sites. It is a memory that is cherished today by her children.
Lida is survived by her son, Stephen (Terri) Muench; daughters, Kathy (Lee) McKenzie and Joyce (Larry) Powell; her daughter-in-love, Susan Muench (Gerald); grandchildren, Stephen Muench II, Andrew Muench, Ashley McKenzie, Allison (Miguel) Matos, Alex McKenzie, Alaina McKenzie, Gerald (Mia) Muench, Seth (Zoe) Muench, Baylee Muench and Delaney Powell; great grandchildren, Stephen III, Ella Rose, Crosby, Elon and Indi; and many nieces and nephews. In addition, she has many grandchildren and great grandchildren from blended families.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Captain Gerald W. Muench (USN Ret.); sons, George, Gerald and Michael Muench; and sisters, Constance Blackwood and Joyce Murphy. She loved them all.
Lida will be interred with her husband in Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be announced.

Mrs. Muench or Auntie Lida as I called her, was always the best part of my work day. Many days she shared pearls of wisdom and life tips. It proved difficult to be around her and not learn something. I enjoyed hearing about the many trips around the US with 6 kids, the excursions, and the parties. I may have only knew her for 2 short years but she was definitely family. Here’s to chocolates in heaven my sweet sweet auntie. I pray that her children feel Gods love and grace during this time of bereavement.

Lida was my mom’s best friend in the whole world! They were quite a pair when hanging out together. I will always remember her as a second mom. She was an amazing peron! One-of-a-kind. She made everyine around her smile. She will be missed!
