Major Richard W. Davis, Jr.

Major Richard Warfield Davis, Jr., 77, a native of Mobile, AL and resident of Bay Minette, AL, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2020.

Richard attended St. Catherine of Siena Elementary School and McGill Institute, where he graduated in 1960.  At McGill he played varsity football and was a National Merit semi-finalist.  He received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he played rugby.  He flew UH-1 (Huey) helicopters and 0-1 aircraft in Vietnam from 1967-1968.  He was active duty for six years and then served in the Army/Air National Guard.  After his military service he worked in the insurance industry for many years, culminating in his retirement from Humana Insurance in 2001.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Richard Warfield Davis, Sr. and his mother, Clyde Adrian Quina Davis.

He is survived by his children Richie (Amy) Davis of Spanish Fort and Dede (James) Marshall of Cape Girardeau, MO; his grandchildren, Isabelle, Braeden and Katherine Davis of Spanish Fort, AL and Webb Marshall of Phoenix, AZ, Caroline and Emma Marshall of Cape Girardeau, MO; siblings, Margaret (Steve) Sennott of Simsbury, CT, James (Judy) Davis of Houston, TX, Laura (Rob) Ellis of Centerville, VA and Fred (Bonnie) Davis of Fort Walton Beach, FL; nieces and nephews, Paul and Elizabeth Sennott, Patrick, Jeffrey and Timothy Davis, Lauren Rice and Robert Ellis; as well as other family members and friends.

There will be a memorial service held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1503 Main Street, Daphne, AL, on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 3:00 p.m.  The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Interment will take place at the U.S. Military Academy Cemetery at West Point, NY at a later date.

Expressions of condolence for the family may be made at  Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road. Daphne, AL, is assisting the family.

    We are so sorry to hear of your loss. I, Mike Cook , West Point Class of 1964, will attend the service tomorrow. Dick and I were company mates and we traveled in Europe together.

    We were plebe roommates and great friends and rugby team mates.

    My prayers and condolences to his family. Rich loved his children and grandchildren so much.

    He will be missed.

    I will attend the internment at West Point. Please let me know when that will be.
