Margaret Elizabeth Harris Jones, Daphne, AL, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the age of 87.
Margaret was born November 2, 1932 in McLoud, OK to Edith and Rev. J.C. Harris, who was the Pastor of the local United Methodist Church. Margaret graduated from Vinita (OK) High School in 1950, attended OK A & M (now OK State), and graduated from OK University in 1954. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. After graduation, she went to work at Carter Oil Company in Tulsa, OK as an executive secretary, and soon met her future husband, Fred Jones, who had just returned from Army duty in Europe, at Boston Ave. Methodist Church. They were married September 3, 1955. Fred’s work required several moves, but Margaret always quickly became acquainted with new people and surroundings. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing in Church choirs. She was active most recently at St. James Episcopal Church in Fairhope, AL. Margaret was noted for her hospitality; and was a member of the PEO Society.
Margaret is survived by her husband Fred; daughter, Laura Nobles (Jeff); son, Stephen Jones (Dori); granddaughters, Sarah Nobles and Elizabeth Jones; grandson, Kevin Jones; sister, Linda DeYoung; and brother, James Harris. She was predeceased by her mother and father.
A memorial service will be at St. James Episcopal Church 860 N. Section Street in Fairhope, AL on March 9, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.
