Mary Cecelia Cook Anderton, a native of Varnville, South Carolina and a resident of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away on November 29, 2025, at the age of 82.

Mary worked as a flight attendant with United Airlines, both domestic and international for 30 years.

Throughout her life, Mary enjoyed a wide range of interests. She was known for her artistic talents in porcelain art painting and was a key member of both her bridge and Mahjong clubs. Mary was also an avid reader, a Master Gardener, and a master cook and caterer.

Mary was extremely loving and generous to her family and friends, and she will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, John H. Anderton; brothers, Lewis Cook, Phillip Schmitten, Duke Gatlin, Mike Cook and Larry Cook.

She is survived by her daughters, Theresa Kraus of Dallas, TX, Dana A. Guthrie (Marc) of Birmingham, AL and Christine Griffiths (Chester) of Malibu, CA; her grandchildren, John Austin Guthrie (Haley), Michele Song (Tinny), Luciu Guthrie (Blair), Molly Crump (Michael), Morgan Kraus, Mitchell Kraus, Chester Henry Griffiths, Charley Dana Griffiths, Austin Whitney Gatlin, Josh Gatlin (Sara) and Harrison Gatlin; great-grandchildren, Riley Crump, Rosie Crump, Ida Michele Guthrie and Mabel Susan Guthrie; one brother, Stephen Gatlin; her best friend, Millie Gobble; other special friends, Jeff and Donyale Rawson, Sara Mae and Minnie Beard; her dog, Champ; as well as nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 3PM – 5PM at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL.
