Mom – there was never a way to give back as much love as you gave to me…not in two lifetimes could I provide for you what you provided for me…I don’t know how you did it with five boys…but I do know you were the most wonderful mother that God could ever have provided me…and yet I failed in showing you just how much you meant to me.

I only pray that you are now at peace and with your loved ones in heaven. I’ll miss you dearly down here, but am so happy that you are not suffering and living a life that was not reflective of the life you deserved.

I’m so proud to say you were my mother – even when I think of the times that you stood in our front yard waiting for me to come home when I was late for curfew; or the time I cussed and you were going to wash my mouth out with soap – but instead I hid all the soap in the house; and the time you told all us boys to get out of the house because we were fooling around on normal ‘Saturday – cleaning day.’

However, your true love showed whenever there was a scrap, cut, bruise, twisted ankle, or any injury that I had; and when you broke down crying after deciding I wanted to go to Mansfield State College – you feared what happened to Marty’s father could happen to me; but mostly during the times that life wasn’t going all so great and you were there to comfort me, and get me back on my feet.

Praying that God blessed you with open arms…your wisdom, caring, and faith will always be felt by me. Love you with all my heart.

To Marty, Tom, Mike, Beth and families:

With so many memories and so much history, it’s hard to find the right words. We offer our testimony that everything Mike has written about Mary Ellen and her boys is true, with no exaggeration, with one exception. Mike did not fail in showing and demonstrating his love for his mom. All of the boys loved and respected their mom.

With condolences, sorrow, faith, love, prayers and promise,

    Bill and Robert Pulos

As a long-time former resident of Alfred and a colleague of your parents, I want to express my sympathy to Michael and all of Mary Ellen’s at this sad time. Both of your parents were wonderful people and were sadly missed when they retired from Alfred State. I hope that the thoughts and prayers of your many friends helps to ease some of the pain and loss that you are feeling and will sense in the future. Thinking of you…. Dan Neverett

the Class of 1952, Elmira Free Academy, will never forget our former classmate, Mary Ellen Madigan Giedlin. She was a fun and popular student we enjoyed knowing during the 3 years she was with us.

Dear Mrs. Giedlin’s family – I remember Mrs. Giedlin fondly as a former student of hers. She was a tough instructor and I was scared of her! Our first day of clinical she told us she would rip off our ears chew them up and spit them in the garbage if she ever caught one of us doing something we shouldn’t be. I believed her! The thing that bothered me the most was that I had her for every rotation that was possible and that was quite a few. I was scared of her right up to the last day I had her and our post conference talk I finally understood her! She told me with a smile on her face that she knew she was hard on me to make me the nurse she knew I could be. I think of her from time to time and my sympathies to your family for your loss. Aprille
