Mary Ruth Hartung Green, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at her home on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at the age of 80. Mary was a native of Birmingham, AL and resident of Daphne, AL.
Mary liked to journal as a young girl growing up in Orlando, Florida. She had very fond memories of growing up there.
Mary met the love of her life, Don Green, at Samford University, where they were both students. They went on to attend the University of Alabama where Mary earned a Bachelor of Business degree and Don completed a graduate degree. She and Don married and had two boys, Derek and Chad. They made a great team and together they worked very hard to raise their boys while working and creating great memories for their family. Mary worked for over 20 years with the IRS, all while keeping the family on track as well as all their events, etc. The family went on many fun trips over the years. They enjoyed their trips to Gulf Shores, going on regular camping trips, and even a month-long summer camping trip out west, as well as countless youth sporting events.
Mary and Don enjoyed lasting friendships they made at Huffman United Methodist Church and Jefferson State Community College. However, their favorite and fondest memories are of their camping trip, before the kids as well as after. She loved the time they spent together, unwinding and just being together. This was something Mary cherished forever and ever.
Mary is preceded by the love of her life, her husband, Don Green; as well as her parents, Henry and Hilda Hartung.
She is survived by her two sons, Derek Green (Lisa) of Charlotte, NC and Chad Green (Stephanie) of Mobile, AL; and her grandchildren, Wyatt and Austin Green and Izzie and Beau Green.

Wonderful Lady – Beverley and I really enjoyed our time with Mary and Don – All who know her will miss her and we most definitely will miss her wit and wisdom.
