Michael “Mike” Yarbrough

September 29, 1954 - December 20, 2019


Michael Lee Yarbrough, Sr., 65, a native of Mobile and a resident of Gulf Shores passed away on Friday, December 20, 2019.

Mike grew up in the Oakdale Community where his family attended St. Matthews Catholic Church. Mike graduated from McGill Institute, where he excelled in sports. He attended the University of South Alabama and technical classes to become a tug boat captain. Mike had a 36 year plus career with Crescent Towing of Mobile as a captain. He spent the last four years in retirement, enjoying his family and attending Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, where he was part of the “Born Again Catholic” bible study group and was also a volunteer for many church functions. He was a passionate fan of Alabama Crimson Tide football.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, James Adair Yarbrough; mother, Vivian Miller Yarbrough; brother, Patrick Yarbrough, Sr.; and his nephew, Keith Presley.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Rebecca (Becky) Barnett Yarbrough; children, Michael Lee Yarbrough, Jr. (Amy) of Cambridge, MN, Matthew Adair Yarbrough (Emma) of New Brighton, MN, Bethany Yarbrough Gates (Marc) of Mobile, AL and Baird Barnett Yarbrough (Selena) of Gulf Shores, AL; grandchildren, Addison Yarbrough, Henry Yarbrough, Makayla Gates, Callen Gates, Reyse Yarbrough and Greyson Gates; siblings, James T. “Bud” Yarbrough (Sharon), Jean Yarbrough Presley, Katie Yarbrough Killion (Timmy) and Rene’ Yarbrough Taylor (Joe); his special friends of the B.A.C. group; along with many other relatives and friends.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, Dec. 30, 2019 at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, 308 E 22nd Avenue, Gulf Shores, AL. The rosary will begin at 10:30 AM followed by funeral mass at 11:00 AM.There will be a fellowship luncheon at the church after the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, 308 E 22nd Ave, Gulf Shores, AL 36542 in MIke’s memory.

Expressions of condolence for the family may be made at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL, is assisting the family.
