In Loving Memory

John “Mike” McGinnis

August 31, 1954 - January 9, 2019

John Michael “Mike” McGinnis, 64, a native of Jasper, AL and a resident of Saraland, AL passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 9, 2019.

Mike served in the US Navy on the USS Yosemite   He was an avid music lover.  He played both drums as well as was lead singer in several bands. He was a part of Teaser, Firthand, and MT Glass.  He instilled a great love of many genres of music in his children that will forever be carried on for generations to come. He was a die hard Alabama Football fan!  He would spend his “football Saturday’s” with Great friends or at home with his Dreamland BBQ.  He adored his British comedy, Classic movies, Gaither gospel hour on Saturday evenings and learning as much as he could about history and nature.

His family was everything to him and the true lights that shined for him as well as through him were his two granddaughters, Karsyn & Lily Grace.  He spent countless hours at ballparks, birthday parties and getting all the “Papa Cuddles” on the couch while watching any and all cartoon movies his “Gracie” wanted.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm, Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Destination Church, 9651 Celeste Road in Saraland.  The family will receive friends during a time of visitation beginning at 12:00 noon until service time.  Interment will follow at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort.  Pallbearers will be Christopher Baker, Greg Seelye, Mike Evans, Robert Burt, Jim Borden and Jimmy Nelson.  Honorary pallbearers will be David England and Donnie Norris.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mike’s memory to The Satsuma High School Marching Band, 1 Gator Circle, Satsuma, AL 36572, or The Ronald McDonald House, 1626 Springhill Avenue, Mobile, AL 36604.

Expressions of condolence for the family may be made at  Arrangements by Hughes Funeral Home, 7951 American Way, Daphne, AL 36526.

So beautifully said. Thank you for being my daddy’s friend all those years. Its so funny isn’t it how at ones end we really “see” so much! I found some old videos of yall in the studio I guess in the 80’s and I’ve watched and if there’s more I’d love to see. “It Always Seems the Same” is a song that has been in my heart and mind so much through this whole process. I am do blessed and Thankful to have those songs. I will forever have my daddy able to sing to me.
Much love to you and May Lou both!

I am so so sorry for your loss.
I know Mike went through so much but is now walking on streets of gold with his Savior. You all have supported and rallied around him with such love.
His grace is sufficient and I know He will be with and get you through this
    difficult time.

My heart goes out to his family and friends. He was a true friend, mentor and one of my biggest cheerleaders. He helped me through some tough times and celebrated my successes with me. You will truly be missed my friend but will live on in our hearts and memories.
