Mrs. Natalie Rene’ Broadus Anusiewicz was at home with her family by her side when she peacefully passed through Heaven’s gates on Tuesday morning, November 4, 2025.
A beloved wife, mother, grammy, daughter, sister, niece, aunt, friend and mentor to many, Natalie is survived by her husband of 37 years, David Anusiewicz; her children Emily Anusiewicz, Colleen Pogue (Bill), and Jacob Anusiewicz (Gracie); and her granddaughter, Laura Grace Pogue. Her parents, Stephen E. (Gene) and F. JoAnn Broadus, also survive her, as do her siblings, Barron Broadus, Cheryl Robinson, and Angela Cocke. Natalie also leaves behind numerous nieces and a nephew, as well as a great-niece and great-nephews.
Natalie was born on March 29, 1963, in Birmingham, Alabama. Her family relocated permanently to the Eastern Shore in 1973 and called Spanish Fort home. A 1981 graduate of Fairhope High School, Natalie went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Alabama in 1986.
Natalie’s life spirit was one of goodwill, strength and a deep devotion to her family and community. Throughout her life, Natalie’s calling was to care for others, whether at the bedside as a nurse or helping a family find a new home as a real estate agent. Natalie ultimately returned to nursing as a Director of Care Transitions at Kindred at Home / Kindred Hospice overseeing the coordination of care and case management services to improve patient and family outcomes.
Natalie’s natural leadership and unwavering dedication to empowering teenage girls radiated through her more than twenty-five years as Director of the Eastern Shore Optimist Club’s Dogwood Trail Pageant & Scholarship Program. In this role, she instilled confidence and provided encouragement to countless young women, helping to shape their lives with her unwavering belief in their potential. Natalie was a fierce advocate for those she loved, a steady source of strength and the ultimate cheerleader—one who believed in others completely. Her presence filled rooms. She was a force of nature whose wisdom, vision and practicality left an imprint on all who knew her. “It is what it is!”
Though her family and friends will miss her beyond measure, they take comfort knowing she has now been fully restored and is at home with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. Her love and spirit will continue to guide them all until they meet again.
In honor of Natalie’s beautiful life and the courage, dignity and grace she displayed throughout her six-year journey with ALS, the family invites donations to organizations dedicated to finding a cure and bringing hope to others impacted by ALS, such as the ALS Association (als.org) and the Team Gleason Foundation (teamgleason.org), or to her personal ministry, the Dogwood Trail Pageant & Scholarship Program. To honor her legacy, the Pageant’s Eternal Optimist Award will now bear her name.
The family would like to thank the nurses at Gentiva Hospice—especially Kelly, Morgan and Julia—for their care and compassion, as well as Dr. Coby Harrison for her long-term support, guidance and care.
A Visitation will be held at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL 36526, on Thursday, November 6, 2025 from 4PM – 6PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 545 South Mobile Street, Fairhope, AL 36532, at 9AM. Reverend Bill Price will be officiating. Interment will be at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 34904 AL-225, Spanish Fort, AL 36527, at 11AM

I am so heartbroken to hear of Natalie’s passing. She was a beautiful woman full of grace, strength, kindness, and compassion. Her deep love for her family was evident in everything she did. Natalie touched the lives of so many – young and old – with her warmth, generosity and radiant smile. I will always remember her as a lovely lady in lavender, radiating calm elegance. Her spirit and the love she shared will live on in the hearts she touched.
I have never met anyone quite like Natalie Anusiewicz— so fierce, so firm, and yet so deeply kind. You haven’t truly experienced a pep talk until you’ve had a Natalie pep talk — the kind that leaves you feeling like you could start a fire underwater.
To her husband, David, and her children, Emily, Colleen, and Jacob who were her true pride and joy in the world — thank you for sharing her with the nursing community she was a true leader for compassionate care. I am truly sorry for the loss of your incredible wife and momma bear. Natalie’s strength, warmth, and spirit will live on in everyone who was lucky enough to know her

I was fortunate enough to work with Natalie at Kindred. She and I had offices side by side. Every morning she or I would stop by the others office and we would have our morning chat. She was such a confident, beautiful soul. She was someone that I wanted to be like. I know that she is flying high tonight and looking down on all of us. She would not want us to mourn her, but there is no way to avoid that. She had such energy and emulated that energy in everything she did. To her husband and her children, you were her world and she was so proud of each of you. I’m going to miss you, Natalie and can’t wait to see you again. God bless you and your family.
Natalie will always hold a special place in my heart. She was one of the strongest women I have ever met, a role model for all women. Her strength was admired by all. I will miss her immensely. Thoughts and prayers for her precious family.

So many good memories from the pink house in Grovelakes, had spoken to her through facebook and didn’t know she was ill, Many Prayers for yaw and what a great lady and so many accomplishments.
I got to know Natalie when I had her daughter, Emily in my first grade class. She was the best Mother.. Beautiful inside and out. Prayers for her whole family.

Mrs. Natalie was such a beautiful woman, inside and out. When I initially served on the Dogwood Trail Court Committee, She welcomed me with open arms and was always such a sweetheart. While I didn’t know her for long, she made me feel accepted and truly like I was part of the Dogwood Family. I have missed her since she had to step down and I truly appreciate the person she was towards me and how she treated me.
I will always cherish that. I am grateful she is no longer suffering but instead, is now now a Guardian Angel for us all.

Our family shares in the sadness of Natalie’s passing. The first time I met Natalie, I felt like I had known her my whole life! She had charisma, kindness, beauty, a smile that stretched a mile long, and a touch of sarcasm that so beautifully complemented my cousin, David. Yes, you needed to be able to keep up with him! Not only did she keep up with him, but she was always two steps ahead and leaned in with clever irony that always seemed to come back as a compliment! I am so sorry to hear of her passing and my thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.
I learned of Natalie’s passing through my daughter, who is participating in the upcoming Dogwood Trail Pageant. I myself was a dogwood trail maid in 1999 when Ms, Natalie was directing the program and came on nearly every appearance with us. Some of my fondest Dogwood memories include Ms. Natalie. I will never forget the first time I met her at one of the pageant rehearsals and remember thinking how beautiful and successful she was. Over the years I also volunteered with the Dogwood Pageant & got to know Ms. Natalie even more. The more I learned about her, the more I looked up to her as a role model. She was one of the most genuine people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Hearing of her passing was absolutely heartbreaking, not only because of how much she meant to me but also how much the Broadus family means to me as well. It is difficult to find words to express the empathy I feel for you all. We will be praying for you 🙏.
