Ralph D. Sutton, 76, a native of Kalamazoo, Michigan born October 10, 1946, and a resident of Daphne Alabama, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023.   

Ralph and Connie met as teenagers at a dance and danced into a 56-year marriage. Ralph served in the US Navy from 1966 to 1970, during which time he was attached to the Marines in Vietnam as a corpsman. 

Ralph was employed in construction sales and management for 39 years in Michigan, Florida, and Alabama. Ralph was an ardent University of Michigan football fan, having attended games for some 30 years.  His home office was filled with Michigan memorabilia.  His favorite item was his picture with Coach Carr. In his spare time, Ralph enjoyed golfing, watching war and western movies, dining outside overlooking water, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. 

Preceding him in death is his parents, Charles & Maxine Sutton, brother, David, and son in law, John Placido.

Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Connie; his children, Debbie Horst (Mike) of Spanish Fort, AL, Michelle Whitt (Scott), of Mooresville, N.C., and Christine Placido of Lakeland, FL; his grandchildren, Garrett & Grant Horst, Amanda and Andrew Placido, and Tyler and Madeline Whitt; great-grandchildren, Sutton and Jackson Horst, Easton Placido, and Mary Mason Horst; siblings, Phyllis Howard, Richard Sutton, Janice Miller and Judy Little, all of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Linda Clifford and Carol Caswell of Mesa, Arizona.       

A memorial mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at Christ the King Catholic Church,  711 College Avenue, Daphne, Alabama. Interment will follow at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 34904 Alabama Hwy 225, Spanish Fort, Alabama, at 12:30PM. 

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, at https://www.stjude.org/donate, a charity that he supported. Expressions of condolences for the family may be made at www.hughesfh.com. Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL, is assisting the family.
