Rena Watkins Chafin, 95, went home to her Heavenly Father on January 27, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Thomas Murphy and five sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Marsha (Tom) Claxton, Patricia Cannedy, Deborah Brown; five grandchildren, Adam (Melissa) Cannedy, Matthew (Whitney) Cannedy, Lisa Murphy, Lori Geesling, Tammy Murphy; nine great grandchildren; sister, Thelma Cook; brother, Tom Watkins (Betty) and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Rena lived a very interesting life. She drove diesel trucks hauling soldiers during World War II, was a champion skeet shooter and shot skeet with the Prince of Morocco. She was an avid golfer and got a hole in one on a Par 3 at Tanglewood Country Club on Lake Texoma. A master seamstress, she was an expert at French hand sewing, English smocking, shadow embroidery and crocheting. She was a great cook and her pound cakes and crawfish etouffee were always requested.
She was a member and official greeter at Cottage Hill Baptist Church. For the past two years, she was a resident and ambassador at University Oaks Retirement Community.
A celebration of her life will be held in the chapel at Cottage Hill Baptist Church, 4255 Cottage Hill Rd., Mobile, AL on Saturday, February 16, 2019. Visitation will be at 1pm and the service at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Cottage Hill Baptist Church or your favorite charity in her memory.
