In Loving Memory

Robert “Bob” Stauffer

April 15, 1946 - March 2, 2024

Tribute

Robert Allen Stauffer, 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2024, with his wife at his side.

Bob was born on April 15, 1946, to Beverly and Clara Stauffer in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was raised there with his five siblings, Denny, Patti, Gordy, Jan, and Mark.  After Bob graduated from Union High School in 1964, he went on to join the United States Navy, where he served as a Radarman Second Class E-5 until his honorable discharge in 1967.

Bob met the love of his life, Becky, in 1967 and knew she was the one after only three dates. They were married February 17, 1968, and went on to spend 56 blessed years together. They began to build a life and a family, welcoming daughters Renee, Robyn and Roxanne. Bob was an exemplary father and human being. He embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit and an unending generosity that could be seen in his care for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Bob was strong willed and so very stubborn, but he also had an enormous heart and an incredible sense of humor. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through his life experiences. He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them — and if you knew him, you knew it.

He is survived by his loving wife, Becky; children, Renee and Ben Lyon, Robyn and Mike Heintz, and Roxanne and Dave Cook; grandchildren, Mycah and Kyle Heemstra, Zoya and Jake Devine, Audrey Heintz, Cale Lyon, Lilly Lyon, Britny and Austin Stump, Carter (USAF), Natalie, and Jensen and Ruby Cook; and his great grandchildren, Harrison and Leopold Devine, Ryder and Evelyn Heemstra, and Ethan, Addy, and AJ Stump. Bob’s life was enriched by the laughter and joy of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his siblings, Denny and Sandy Stauffer, Patti and Chris VanDyke, Jan and Bob Becker, and Mark and Cheryl Stauffer.

He was preceded in death by his father, Beverly; his brother, Gordy who died in Vietnam serving his country; his stepfather, Tom; his mother, Clara; and his in-laws, Paul and Lillian Burkey.

A funeral service to honor Bob’s life will be held at Martin Reformed Church, 1073 W. Allegan Street, Martin, Michigan 49070, on Friday, March 22, 2024. Gathering will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by the service at 11:30 AM. There will be a luncheon immediately following.

I’m so sorry your loss Becky and Girls. I have a fond memory of being on your boat in Lake Michigan doing a day ride from Muskegon to Grand Haven. That led me one day to buying my boat. Rest in Peace Bob. Your cousin Bobby

Our condolences to Renee and her family for the loss of her father. We always wondered where Renee’s strong will, tempered with a generous heart came from, now I know. We thank Bob for his sacrifices to country and family. His legacy of unconditional love, strength and generosity lives everyday with our interaction with Renee, and for that we are grateful for his life.
