Robert Eugene “Bobby” Gibney, Sr., passed away peacefully at his home on February 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Bobby was a lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, except for those occasions when he was away in college. Bobby graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama with several basketball awards. Bobby first became associated with Mississippi Delta Junior College located in Moorhead, Mississippi in the fall of 1960, when he was extended a basketball scholarship by legendary Coach Jimmy Bellipanni. He participated in both Delta’s basketball program, and in the Spring of 1961 and 1962 he was “drafted” into the Mississippi Delta track program by “The Delta Fox” Coach Jim Randall.
During the respective basketball programs, Bobby was selected for several all- tournament teams and Delta’s team won the Northern Division of the State Junior College Championship. As a track member he was the sprinter for the 100-yard and 440-yard races. He was also a member of the college’s relay team, including 880-yard, and mile relays, having set a state junior college record in the 880-yard relay which stood for many years thereafter. MDJC’s track team won the 1961 and 1962 Mississippi State Junior College championships.
Bobby’s athletic endeavors at MDJC earned him an induction into the Mississippi Delta Sports Hall of Fame in April 2001, and in 2019 he was inducted into the Mississippi Community and Junior College Sports Hall of Fame at Mississippi Delta for Track and Basketball. After Mississippi Delta, Bobby was granted a scholarship to Livingston State College now known as the University of West Alabama located in Livingston, Alabama, where he continued his basketball feats. Upon graduation from Livingston State, he was awarded an academic scholarship to Tulane University School of Law where he graduated with Honors, in May 1967.
After graduation, Bobby moved back to Mobile where he worked as a Law Clerk with Judge Daniel Thomas at Federal Court, then went to Kilborn, Darby and Kilborn Law Firm, that eventually became Kilborn and Gibney. Ultimately, Bobby opened his own successful law office at 1006 Dauphin Street in Mobile and practiced for over 39 years. Although he just closed his law office in 2025, he remained a Lawyer at heart and mind and refused to believe he ever retired from the practice of Law.
Bobby was preceded in his death by his beautiful mother, Thelma Grace (Rush) Gibney and his stern father, Patrick Joseph Gibney.
Bobby is survived by and was married to his Mississippi Delta sweetheart, Raymonda Faye (Carr) Gibney of Leflore County Mississippi for 63 years. He is also survived by his oldest brother, Patrick Joseph Gibney, IV; and his youngest brother, Michael Wayne Gibney. Bobby and Faye have three children, Robert Eugene (Barbara) Gibney, Jr. of Lillian, AL, Ronald Dean (Marcia) Gibney of Loxley, AL and Ronda Grace Gibney (Robert) Bishop of Spanish Fort, AL; eight grandchildren, Michael, Sydnee Faye, Keehln, Kolby, Jonathan, Tucker, Kennedy, and Connor Leverne Burns, and ten great-grandchildren.

Mr Gibney was a true southern gentleman. His compassion and expertise were his strengths. My sister whom he represented loved him dearly. I came to love him as well. I consider it a privilege to have known him I .pray peace and love to Rhoda and his family. We lost a good man.
I always admired Bob as an attorney and enjoyed practicing law along side such a great person. I’ll miss him.
Faye, Nolan and I send thoughts and prayers for all the family and friends of this special man. Nolan so enjoyed their golf days and I have so many Mercy Medical memories. God Bless

Bob was an all around great guy. An avid golfer as well as an expert attorney, he was as a very sociable but professional person. He always was there for his friends.?I have so many great memories of him. RIP, my friend.

Mr. ‘Bobby’ Gibney is a Mobile icon He practiced law with my father for many years and you will not find a man that is more respected. One of the highlights of visiting my dad at the office was being able to see Mr. Gibney. He always stopped what he was doing to check on us kids and to share one of his legendary stories. Any one that knows Bobby Gibney, knows that he could tell a tale. He was straight out of Central Casting! When Bobby walked into a room with his cowboy boots, that voluminous head a gray hair, and a smile as wide as the windshield of a 1950 Mercury, he was hard to miss. I had occasion to see him over the years and his enthusiasm for life, friends, and most importantly family never wavered. Bob was a good man. He had a great sense of humor. He was a friend from the first time I met him.
He was my trusted friend who loved his family and loved life. I will always remember the great times we shared and the example he set for so many.
I had just entered my freshman year in high school which was located on the MDJC college campus when I met Bobby Gibney. My folks owned and operated the GALOE Theater here in Moorhead where I took up tickets and sold popcorn. Bobby would bring his date, Faye, to the movies all the time. He always had a kind word for me and always made me feel special, him being an older guy and me still a little girl. Our friendship lasted until his death. Dear Faye and Family, I was so sorry to hear about Bob. I have known him since our Mercy Medical days and we remained friends. He was a special man who would help anyone in need. He will be missed by his many friends as well as family. Faye, I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
I spent untold hours with Mr. Gibney during mediations that he conducted at his office for many of my divorce cases during a time when lawyers were not quote sold on the idea of or benefits of formal mediations in domestic matters. He was the trailblazer in this regard and many benefited from his wisdom and ability to get even the most difficult matters settled for the husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, and most importantly the children. He was dedicated to the practice of law and most importantly, his family. I send my prayers and thoughts to Ronda, “Miss” Faye, and family.
“Mr. Gibney” was a golf friend. Playing golf or just enjoying a conversation, Bob was a pleasure. I could relax and laugh with him.
We’d talk family, dogs and a little sports. I pray for him, Faye and children.
Bob coached the basketball team at the School of Organic Education where his boys were students. He brought the same enthusiasm and drive that he brought to all aspects of his life. I am honored to be a friend.
