Robert (Bob) Eugene Pannone, Sr., age 78, a native of Washington, D.C. and a long-time resident of Spanish Fort, Alabama, passed away Monday, September 29, 2014. A graduate of Baldwin County High School and Auburn University, he retired from Insurance Services Office after 32 years of service.   Bob was a member of the Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church and was involved in many community organizations throughout his life. He is a past President of Spanish Fort Civitan Club and Spanish Fort Elementary School PTA.  Bob also served as Deputy Chief for the Spanish Fort Volunteer Fire Department and selected as Spanish Fort Neighbor of the Year in 1972.  He was an inductee of the 2008 Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame and 2011 Baldwin County High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was involved in high school athletics for 48 years and beloved by many around the State of Alabama, serving as a football official, evaluator, and regional director of officials for the Alabama High School Athletic Association. In 1993, Bob was a founding member of the City of Spanish Fort and served on the city council for two terms. He is a United States Army veteran of 2 years, serving in the Korean Theater.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Pannone and Letha Jones; his daughter-in-law, Kim Pannone; and granddaughter, Holly Pannone.

 Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Joyce Pannone; his sons, Robert Jr., Lt Col, USAF (ret.) (Marie) of Huntsville, AL; Johnny (Katrina) of Spanish Fort; and daughter, Mitzi (Wing) Brett of Foley; eight grandchildren, Josh, Joe, Haley, Drew and Luke Pannone; Emily, Erin and Amanda Brett; his sister, Nancy (Jim) Wesorick and many other relatives and friends. He is also survived by special friends including Sabra and George Atkins, and Richard and Mildred Lee. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at the USA-Mitchell Cancer Institute.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 1, 2014 from 5:00 – 7:00pm at the Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church, 6620 Spanish Fort Blvd, Spanish Fort, AL. Interment will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 12:30pm at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, followed by a celebration of Bob’s life at 2:00pm at the Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church or Camp Rap‑A‑Hope, 2701 Airport Blvd, Mobile, AL 36606. Expressions of condolence may be offered at www.hughesfh.com. Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home and Crematory, 7951 American Way, Daphne, AL 36526.
