Robert Walter Becker, known to his family as Wally and to colleagues and friends as Bob, passed from this earth and entered heaven on Sunday, October 7, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Sara Eileen Hightower Becker, daughters Jennifer and Diana as well as his sisters Elaine (Ross) Jett of St. Petersburg Beach and Janine (Stephen) Nickerson of Tampa, brother Douglas of San Francisco and other family members.
He was born June 12, 1943 to Robert Walter and Alice Roman Becker in Sewickley, PA. As a teenager, he and the family moved to Tampa, FL where he graduated from Plant High School and The University of Tampa (’66). He retired from the Food and Drug Administration in 2001 after over 34 years of service and began consulting in the food industry.
Bob was an avid woodworker, photographer and fisherman. He played drums for many years and performed for over 25 years with the percussion section of the Mobile Pops Band. He was also a member of the Azalea City Turning Club. Bob and Eileen attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Daphne.
The Family will receive visitors on Friday, October 12th at 6:00 pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 6100 Cottage Hill Road, Mobile, Al 36693. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 13th at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 8271 Whispering Pines Road, Daphne, AL, followed by a lunch provided by the church.
