Daphne, AL

Ronald Edward LaFroscia, loving father and husband, age 74, of Daphne, Alabama, passed away Sunday morning, January 15, 2017. He was born to Rose and Pete LaFroscia, Sr. in Queens, New York. He graduated from Brooklyn High School and LaSalle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1959, he joined the United States Army. In spite of a childhood of walking uphill both ways to school in the snow, often times without shoes and a book bag, he went on to excel in a lifelong career in manufacturing. Throughout his career, he traveled around the country and world running manufacturing plants. He loved to travel and would often return home after weeks abroad and share stories with his friends and family of his trip.

In 1977, he met his beautiful bride in Greenville, North Carolina and claims she chased him for months before he finally succumbed to her flirtations and advances. On July 22, 1978 he married Dorothy “Juanita” Briley of Greenville and they were married for 38 years and had four children. With Ron’s job, the LaFroscia’s lived in North Carolina, Texas, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Virginia and moved to their final destination in Alabama in 1985. He retired from his corporate job in 2005 and spent his retirement years working various jobs just to stay busy, including most recently at the Bass Pro Shop where he has worked since 2008.

Those who knew him knew his love for pasta and red wine, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra and all things James Bond.  Often mistaken for a slightly taller Sylvester Stallone, he loved his Italian heritage and continued to speak with a thick New York accent throughout his life. He was loud, loved life, his family, his Heineken and his puppies.

Ron is survived by his wife, Juanita, his twin brother, Pete LaFroscia and his children; Ronald LaFroscia Jr, Lisa LaFroscia Ross, Danielle LaFroscia Austin (Tom),  Tracie LaFroscia Lee, Christopher LaFroscia, Nicole LaFroscia (Fred), Michelle LaFroscia White (Chase) and 13 grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents. He will be greatly missed by many.

The family will host a visitation on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at Hughes Funeral Home in Daphne from 11:00am – 12pm, followed by a graveside service at 12:30 pm at Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society: Prostate Cancer, www.cancer.org.  Expressions of condolence may be offered at www.hughesfh.com. Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home, 7951 American Way, Daphne, AL.

I was so sorry to hear about Ron’s passing. I worked with him at Bass Pro (not directly), and would always see him reading a book at lunchtime. He was a very interesting man and easy to talk to, and always ready to engage someone in conversation. You have my deepest condolences, and sympathy at this very difficult time. Ron will be greatly missed at Bass Pro and at the other places I would see him from time to time.
