Ronald “Ron” Mason McCullough, 79 a native of Birmingham, Alabama and a resident of Foley, Alabama, passed away on January 13, 2026.
Ron graduated from West End High School in January of 1964. He then earned an Associates Degree in Electronics from a community college. He went to work at AVCO Electronics in Huntsville, Alabama, where he worked on building the self-destruct box for the Saturn V rocket designed by NASA. In 1966, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. There he worked on radar systems and became an instructor as a Staff Sargeant E6 until 1969. He made his way back home to Birmingham and took a job at Xerox Corporation where he was a technician, later a Field Service Manager and then a Technical Trainer. Ron retired after 40 years at Xerox in May of 2010.
Throughout his life he has always enjoyed being outside taking care of his and many neighbors’ yards, both at their home in Moody, Alabama, and for the last 13 years in Foley, Alabama. Ron’s beliefs have always been that we were born and put here on Earth to work and help people, which is why he donated over 10 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross.
Ron is preceded in death by his father, Robert Glenn McCullough and his mother, Mary Evelyn McCullough.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Shackelford McCullough; his brother, Bob McCullough (Pam); his children, Eric McCullough (Denease) of Hiram, GA, Carrie McLemore (Chance) of Fairhope, AL and John McCullough (Amy) of Marietta, GA; his grandchildren, Kenley McLemore, Mason McCullough, Allison McLemore, Emerson McCullough and Amelia McCullough
A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew By the Sea, 17263 Fort Morgan Road; Gulf Shores, Alabama, on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 10AM. Reception to follow service.
Interment will take place at Canterbury United Methodist Church, Mountain Brook, Alabama
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization Ron has always supported. But after having battled cancer he felt no child should have to endure that. https://www.stjude.org/donate

Betty please accept my condolences. I pray for what I know…God can and will carry you and the family through as you grieve your loved one’s departure. You know I always thought of Ron as Clint Eastwood! Didn’t know til just now that he’s a product of West End, where I’ve lived nearly 50 years! Pray too that you will totally heal from your injury. 🫂

Ron was awesome to work with at Xerox. His team respected him for his knowledge, management skills and camaraderie. May our Lord give Betty and family peace.
Ron and I worked together at. Xerox for 40 years. We worked together doing training for a long time without having a cross word. Called him last Friday and he said he was about the same. He was a man above many men, He was a true friend.

Nancy Warnix contacted me to let me know of Ron’s passing. I remember a quiet, smart, southern gentleman who became your loving husband, while we were all working at Xerox. Ron’s obituary was an overview of a beautiful life well- lived.
