Ronald M. Sever

May 27, 1940 - October 28, 2023


Ronald Michael Sever, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023, after a lengthy illness.  He was born May 27, 1940, in Sharon, PA.

Ronald served in the U.S. Army in east Africa and southern Asia, and then in the U.S. Air Force where he served at an airbase on Shemya, one of the smallest and farthest west of the Aleutian Islands off Alaska.

After leaving the Air Force and another stint in civilian life, Ron joined the U.S. Coast Guard, where he served as the radio operator on fixed wing and helicopter rescue missions and on two scientific support trips to Antarctica.

After retiring from the Coast Guard, Ron worked several years for the U.S. Post Office and farmed in Alabama.  He and Mary moved to Daphne, AL after finally retiring for good.

Ronald is survived by his loving wife, Mary Sever; son, Mark Sever (Denice) of Fernandina Beach, FL; two brothers, Tom Sever of West Middlesex, PA and Mike Sever (Malinda) of North Fort Myers, FL; as well as nephews and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at 1PM, at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 34904 AL Hwy. 255, in Spanish Fort, AL.

Expressions of condolences for the family may be made at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL, is assisting the family.

    Ron was always very nice and full of stories about his adventures in the Army, Air Force & Coast Guard, as well as his misadventures (lol)…He had a way of making every story interesting & leaving me wanting to know more…I am proud he gave me his collection of rocks from the Dry Valley in Antartica…He will be missed & I will miss his stories!!!
