Ross L. Street, 90, died on Sept. 23rd, 2013, after a brief illness. He was born on July 24th, 1923 to Thomas Jefferson Street and Nora Street in Chambers County, Alabama, the 5th of 9 children. After growing up in a small town and graduating from Gadsden High School, Ross joined the navy in 1942. He spent the next 29 years traveling the world. He went to Purdue University for electrical training.
He served on the USS Weber during World War II as well as many other ships during his career. He also scheduled flights at Baron Field, was a navy instructor, Asst. Director of the Navy Electrical School in San Diego,CA and retired as a Master Chief.
He served in WWII, the Korean Conflict and did several tours in Vietnam.

In retirement, he had his own Electrical Contractor business in Daphne and finally retired at the age of 82. Besides his business, his greatest priorities were his family and playing golf. He was a regular on the Lake Forest Golf Course between 1977 and 2008. He served his country, community and family with leadership and integrity. One of his most memorable experiences was taking the honor flight last Sept. where he visited the WWII, Korean and Vietnam memorials. A flag was flown over the Capitol in his honor. His wife, Clara Simms Street, who he lovingly took care of during the last years of her life, died in Nov. 2011. His daughter, Sharon Dearden, also preceded him in death.

He is survived by two brothers, Jack Street and George Street, and 4 children, including his son, Butch Street of Denver, CO, and daughters, Marcia Kennedy of Ocean Springs, MS, Mary Elliott of San Diego, CA and Essie Martin of Salinas, CA. All will miss him greatly, especially his great sense of humor and wit. He is also survived by grandchildren, Ian and Rhea Kennedy, Kelli Street, Samantha Dixon, Noah and Rachelle Silva, Sarah Hayes and Ryan Martin, in addition to 11 great grandchildren. His son-in-law Bruce Dearden, who lives in Foley, is remembered for his devotion to our Dad while he was in the hospital. Mildred Simms Foster, sister-in-law and Edward Simms, brother-in-law, survive him. He also has numerous nieces and nephews. Ross died with courage and grace like the truly humble and strong person that he was. The family and the community have lost an exceptional man.

Graveside services with full military honors will be at 2:00pm, Friday, November 8, 2013 at the Alabama State Veterans Cemetery in Spanish Fort.  A time to celebrate Ross’s life will begin at 3:30pm at the Lake Forest Yacht Club.
