Mr. Roy Douglas Thagard Sr. passed into eternal peace on 27 June 2014.  Mr. Thagard was born in Brantley, Alabama on 7 November 1921.  Mr. Thagard was a resident of Theodore, Alabama.  In 1941, he was attending Huntingdon College in Montgomery when he enlisted in the Army, serving in New Guinea and the Philippines during World War II.  Mr. Thagard was a Charter Life Underwriter for New York Life for 46 years receiving many awards throughout his career.  He was a past president of the local AARP, Mobile Optimist Club and the Mobile Chapter of Toastmasters International.  Roy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Theodore and a Sunday school leader and teacher in the many churches he attended.  In his 92 years, he was a devoted Christian, loving husband, father, grandfather and trusted friend.

He was preceded in death by his father; George M. Thagard, his mother, Gussie M. Thagard, two brothers; Dazelle and Clyde Thagard, a sister, Marjorie Harding, and a son Roy D. Thagard Jr.

Roy leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 53 years, Mary E. Thagard, sons and family members; Paul and Jaime Thagard, Larry and Debbie Johnston, Greg Johnston, and daughter Kathy Perri.  Roy leaves ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren to carry on his legacy.

Memorial services will be held at First Baptist Church of Theodore, Alabama on 30 June 2014 at 1100 AM.  All family and friends are invited.  In lieu of flowers please send donations to the First Baptist Church of Theodore or the charity of your choice.  Cremation internment services will be held at a later date at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort for immediate family members.
