Rufus Hilary “Buzzy” Ducote, III, 58, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2013. He was a resident of Daphne, AL and a native of Grand Bay, AL. Buzzy was a Eucharistic Minister at Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne for 20 years. He is predeceased by his parents, Rufus H. “Rocky” and Juanita B. Ducote of Grand Bay.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Rebecca Andrews Ducote; three children, April (Danny) Hopson of Smiths Station, AL, Rufus H. (Beau) Ducote, IV and Hillary (Ryan) Sansone both of Daphne and granddaughter, Avril Anne Hopson of Smiths Station. He is also survived by his brothers, Mark (Vickee) Ducote of Kingwood, TX and Brian (Twyla) Ducote of Daphne; sisters, Karen (Gene) Marcotte of San Antonio, TX, Pamela (Johnny) Dupont of Daniel Island, SC, Phyllis (Lou) Dixon of Daphne and Cynthia (Ernie) Imsand of Mobile as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Buzzy was employed by the General Services Administration (GSA) in Mobile as a Construction Project Manager for 38 years and retired from the U. S. Coast Guard Reserve as a Chief Warrant Officer (CWO 3) in 2009 after 28 years of service. He was a member of the Knights of Ecor Rouge (KOER) for 15 years and was a volunteer with the Rileigh and Raylee Angel Ride Foundation.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Christ the King Catholic Church on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 11:00 AM. The Celebrant will be Rev. Matthew J. O’Connor and Concelebrant will be Rev. Travis Burnett. Eulogies will be offered by Buzzy’s long time friends, Alvin Cox and Robbins Flynn. Honorary Pallbearers will be co-workers at GSA Mobile and fellow Knights of KOER.
The family will receive friends in Assumption Hall following the Mass. Rite of Christian Inurnment will be celebrated at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Hwy. 225 at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Little Sisters of the Poor, 1655 McGill Ave., Mobile, AL 36604. Expressions of condolence for the family may be made at hughesfh.com.
