Tribute

Sandy “Sam” Lee McCavit, 66, of Pittsford, Michigan, passed away Friday, January 14, 2022, peacefully while enjoying time in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Sam was born July 21, 1955, to Donald and Aliene (Butts) McCavit.  He wed Mary (Frederick) McCavit on November 10, 1978.  Sam had two daughters, Samantha (Jeffrey) Buterbaugh and Sarah (William, Jr.) Butler, and a daughter through marriage, Sandra (John) Miller.  He will be remembered and dearly missed by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Sam was a 30+ year employee and retired from Hillsdale Tool.  He also spent many years riding a Harley, shearing sheep, and creating metal art.  Working from sunup to puttering past sundown, he often included family and passed on his many skills.  The small amount of time he wasn’t working, he enjoyed family camping and canoeing trips, raising animals, enjoying time at his homestead, and gardening.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, brother Patrick, and sister Rebecca. He is survived by his wife, children, brothers, Micheal (Michele) McCavit, Scott (Elizabeth) McCavit, Shaun McCavit, and Shannon (Karla) McCavit.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Expressions of condolence for the family may be made at www.hughesfh.com.

Hughes Funeral Home & Crematory, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, Alabama, is assisting the family.

Mary and family, I’m sorry for our loss of Sam. He was very kind and fun loving to everyone and will be missed dearly. I am still using his metal artwork for hanging baskets that he made for Ted. Sam did a beautiful job.
Sending my love and hugs to all. Aunt Sharon
