Scott Kelly

Scott Dale Kelly, 77, of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, May 28, 2023. He was born on February 23, 1946, in Anderson, Indiana to the late Paul Eugene Kelly and Pauline Ellen McKinley Kelly.

Scott was preceded in death by his brothers, Gene Max Kelly, and Don Ray Kelly. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sandra Nafe Kelly; his two daughters, Shayna Futrell and husband, Mel of Birmingham, AL, and Erin Chupek and husband, Chad of Fairhope, AL; his six granddaughters, Halle Poe and husband, Cody of Saraland, AL, McKenna Futrell of Chickasaw, AL, Conner Futrell of Montgomery, AL, Briley Black and husband, Logan of McCalla, AL, Holland Chupek of Birmingham, AL and Addison Chupek of Fairhope, AL. Scott is also survived by his three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was affectionately known as “Papa Kelly” by his grandchildren and many friends.

Scott spent his childhood in Gaston, Indiana. His family made their home in Gaston, and spent part of each year in Anna Maria Island, Florida. He graduated from Manatee High School in Bradenton, Florida in 1964. Scott attended David Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee and later graduated from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana in 1969.

Scott and his wife Sandy moved to Bradenton, Florida in 1969.  He worked in millwork sales and insurance during the 21 years that they resided in Bradenton. In 1990, Scott and Sandy moved and have enjoyed the last 33 years as residents of Fairhope. While living in Baldwin County, he spent time working at ACE Home Center, and most recently drove buses for BRATS. Scott had a love for trains and liked to spend his leisure time building model train layouts.

Scott has been a lifelong and dedicated servant of the Lord. He became a Christian in 1959. He was a member and served as an elder of the Eastern Shore Church of Christ in Daphne, Alabama.

A memorial service will be held at the Eastern Shore Church of Christ, 1209 Daphne Avenue, in Daphne, Alabama, on Friday, June 2, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Eastern Shore Church of Christ, P. O. Box 38, Daphne, AL, 36526.

Expressions of condolence for the family may be made at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL, is assisting the family.

    Scott never met a stranger. Always willing to lend a helping hand. Had the best sense of humor and loved his family so much. He will truly be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
