Sharon McMahon Gunn, lifelong resident of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025, at the age of 81.
Sharon was employed by Vanity Fair for 45 years. She also worked at Walmart in Fairhope, AL for 15 years. Sharon was an active member of the Order of Athena for 34 years. She had a lifelong passion for sewing, which included clothes, Mardi Gras costumes, bags, alterations and even wedding dresses. She also made cakes for many years.
Sharon loved going to the beach, fishing and holding fish fries for friends and family at her home at Fort Morgan. She had a huge loving and giving heart and was always doing for others. She was loved by so many and will be missed by all who knew her.
Sharon is preceded in death by her mother, Jewell McMahon; her husband, Wayne Butler; and brothers, Charles “Butch” McMahon, Thomas McMahon, and Michael P. McMahon.
She is survived by her siblings, Linda Bishop, James McMahon (Pam) and Mary McMahon; special friends and caregivers, her nieces, Bridget Hoffman (Anthony) and Gay Galloway; nephews, Anthony McClellan (Juree), Charlie and Charles Bishop, Coot McMahon (Amanda), Cody McMahon (Faith); and special friend, Frances Miller; along with a host of cousins and many other close relatives; as well as lots of special friends and besties.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Brook Cedron Cemetery, 10143 US 98 in Fairhope, AL, at 3PM.
Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL, is assisting the family.
Sharon was one of the best caretakers of people. She poured herself out to the ones she loved. I will always be in debt to her taking my Daddy in at the end of his life and taking such good care of him because he wanted to pass in Alabama. This was a selfless act that she did repeatedly to family and friends around her. She has a left a hole that few people will ever fill. The best we can do is to learn from how she lived her life.
Sharon’s life was a gift to everyone who knew her. She carried a sweetness that radiated from the inside out, and her beauty was more than just what you saw—it was in the way she treated people, the way she poured herself into everything she did, and the love she gave so freely.
She was passionate about every part of her life, whether it was her work, her family, or the countless ways she cared for others. She loved my dad her Uncle Buddy, to pieces. She was there for him until the very end.
Sharon had a way of making people feel seen and cared for. She was always looking out for others, always giving, always nurturing. And if you were lucky enough to sit at her table, you know that her cooking wasn’t just food—it was love served on a plate.
Her legacy is one of warmth, generosity, and passion. Sharon will be remembered not only for the things she did, but for the way she made people feel: cherished, supported, and loved. RIP Cousin and it makes me happy to know she is in the loving arms of Jesus and now spending time with all the loved ones that passed before her. I envision them sitting around big tables just catching up, oh the stories and the laughter!
I was blessed to have known Ms. Sharon for the past 10 years as one of her OOA sisters. Of course, to those of us in OOA, she was the “Raffle” lady. She was so sweet & gracious and did so much for our organization. We will always remember her. I bet she’s already running the best raffles in Heaven!
I met Sharon when I started working for Walmart and we clicked instantly and were inseparable, she has taught me so much and I will never forget what she’s done for me. She was there for me during some difficult times and I will always treasure her and our friendship. I’m going to miss her so much but I find peace knowing she is in heaven and reunited with her loved ones that she has told me about.
Ms Sharon was the sweetest – most selfless people! I am a member of OOA and will always be Grateful

The Ms Sharon I’ve known for the past 20 years is only the tip of the iceberg for this wonderful lady! She lived a very loved life and has served as an example to all of what receiving by giving is truly about. She chose Grace as her Guiding Light and has given the rest of us a shining example to follow. Go with God, Ms Sharon as He will lead you home.

I have known Sharon my whole life, I was 12 years old when I met her and since then she has been part of our family. I can’t ever remember her not smiling, and she gave the best hugs. She has always cared about every body she knew and she would do anything she could to help someone in need. She had a big kind heart. Even after she got sick and was getting frail she still kept doing for others, she got much happiness in seeing other people happy. She was a excellent seamstress, baker and cook and a master at everything she did and when she had a party at her house you had plenty of good food to eat, that’s for sure. Nothing will ever be the same here without her and she will forever be missed by all that knew her and loved her. Rest In eternal peace sweet Sharon. We will always love you. ❤️
