In Loving Memory

Steven W. McRae

June 17, 1987 - April 11, 2021

Steven Wesley McRae, born June 17, 1987 in Fairhope, AL, and a resident of Daphne, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at the age of 33.

Steven was a devoted and loving husband to his high school sweetheart, Katie. They would have celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary in May. Steven adored Katie, and it was obvious to anyone that knew them. He constantly went on about how wonderful she was to him, and how he could not fathom what he had done to deserve such a loyal and supportive wife. They spent 17 years together and could be happy doing nothing, as long as they had each other’s company.

Steven enjoyed being outdoors. He loved fishing, reading, playing video games, working in the yard, and spending time at the bay. He was a huge Alabama football fan and treasured the time he spent traveling with his dad to games.

Steven loved animals and had a heart for helping others. He combined those two passions and volunteered his free time feeding stray cats with the Fairhope Cat Coalition.

He loved German Chocolate cake, French toast, his mom’s 7-layer salad and Hawaiian meatballs, and enjoyed a glass of chocolate milk every night before bed.

Steven was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Gerald R. Martin, paternal grandparents, William A. and Nellie M. McRae, and his uncle, James D. McRae.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Katie; his loving parents, Greg and Pamela McRae; brother, William McRae; sister, Megan Reid (James); and his brand-new niece, Stevie, whom he loved and adored. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Bobbie I. Martin; his loving in-laws, Joel and Sue Blackwell; sister-in-law, Laura Blackwell; brother-in-law, Justin Blackwell; as well as many loving family members and close friends.  He will be greatly missed by his two cats, Mack & Lola, that loved him dearly.

A funeral service will be held at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL, on Monday, April 19, 2021 at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Jubilee Memory Gardens.
