Susan Loper Wood, 85, of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away peacefully at her home on February 21, 2026, surrounded by family. Born as Susan Beth Loper on September 22, 1940, in York, Alabama, to Otho and Catherine Loper, she lived a life defined by love and kindness. Susan was known for her unwavering faith and devotion to family.   

Married to John Maxwell Wood for almost 60 years who preceded her in death, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who found happiness spending time with her grandchildren. Susan graduated Summa Cum Laude from Troy University and retired from social work with the State of Alabama in Grove Hill, Alabama.  

Susan is survived by her daughter, Katherine Delys Nall (Alfred) of Excel, Alabama; her son, Mark Wood (Margaret) of Fairhope, Alabama; her grandchildren, Katherine Corbin (Sean) of Spartanburg, South Carolina, William Quinley (Alyssa) of Spanish Fort, Alabama, Emelie Wood (Clayton Pipkin) of Savannah, Georgia, and John Christopher Wood of Fairhope, Alabama; her sister, Sherry Cooper of Robertsdale, Alabama; and her brother, Mark Loper (Ashley) of Robertsdale, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, sister, Sandra Garth, brother, Otho “Sonny” Loper, and grandson, John Graham Quinley.  

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 34904 Hwy. 225 in Spanish Fort, Alabama, at 2:00 pm. Officiating will be Dr. Jerry Henry. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Fairhope, 300 South Section Street, Fairhope, AL, 36526.

Susan will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her love, compassion, and the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
