In Loving Memory
January 14, 1947 – March 4, 2015
Thomas Michael Tyrrell, age 68, native and lifelong resident of Mobile, passed away on March 4, 2015 of heart failure.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Gerald Tyrrell and Marie Therese (Fernandez).
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Patricia Kosko Tyrrell, daughters, Laura Marie Tyrrell Ford (Lawrence Giddens Ford, Jr. “Russ”) and Stephanie Elina Tyrrell Gantt (Jason Edward Gantt), his grandchildren Lawrence “Giddens” Ford, III, Louise Tyrrell Ford, and Edward Weinman Gantt, as well as his sister, Elina Tyrrell Darling (Gordon). Also cousins, several nieces and nephews and many friends. All with whom he loved very much.
Tommy attended St. Ignatius and Little Flower Elementary and graduated from McGill Institute in 1965.
He served in The United States Marine Corps and is a Graduate of The University of South Alabama with a degree in Accounting and Business. He was member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
He had a longtime career in the Industrial Construction Business and in local, State and National Politics.
His love for his community was evident through his civic involvement including serving on many boards throughout his career; the Alabama Builders and Contractors Association, serving as President, the City of Mobile Tennis Center, the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, Senior Bowl Committee, a co-founder of Bayfest, Inc., the Board of Mobile Area Water and Sewer Service, the Board of Equalization. He had a deep devotion to his spiritual life and was a leader and mentor to so many people. He was involved in several spiritual support groups and served the Stephens Ministry at St. Ignatius Parrish for years.
He held a passion for Mardi Gras and was actively involved in many social clubs throughout the area.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 3704 Springhill Avenue on Monday, March 9, at 10:00am in the church. Celebrant will be Msgr. G. Warren wall. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00am at the Marian Center church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Home of Grace, 394 Adcock Rd., Eight Mile, AL 36613, 251-456-7807.
