Vergie Lee Knight, 80, and a resident of Daphne for the past 10 years, died Sunday, October 14, 2012.

Vergie was born in Booneville MS, but spent most of her life in Birmingham .

She was a devoted mother, sister and wife. She became an avid and accomplished tennis player from the moment she discovered the game, she immersed herself in the joy of reading, and had been a volunteer at the Prodisee Pantry food bank.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Auty and Bertha Hutchens and by three siblings, Gladys Hodges, Donald Hutchens, and Thelma Weeks.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Donald Knight, her daughter Amy Knight (Dan Hipes) of Tallahassee , FL , her son Andy Knight of Bozeman , MT , and by her sister, June Burdick of Chicago , IL .

A visitation with the family will be at Hughes Funeral Home on Friday, October 19, 2012 from 5:00 pm until the 7:00 pm celebration time of Vergie’s life.
