Vernon Harcourt “Court” Bodden, III, a lifelong resident of Fairhope, AL, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022, at the age of 77.
Court was born November 13, 1944, at Brookley Field Base Hospital in Mobile, AL. He attended Fairhope Schools from grades 1–12 and graduated from Fairhope High School Class of 1963, where he played the flute in the Fairhope High School Buccaneer Band. He then attended and graduated from Perkingston Jr. College (Gulf Coast Community College) in Perkingston, MS and played flute in the Perkingston College Band, was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Jr. College Scholastic Honor Society. He then went on to attend Florida State University and graduated from Mobile College and received an MBA degree from the University of Alabama. He was a member of Mensa International High I.Q. Society.
Court served in the US Navy from 1968 – 1972. His duty stations were in Morocco, North Africa and Naval Station New Brunswick, Maine. He worked at Pine Crest Funeral Home in Mobile. In his spare time, he loved to read and was a veracious reader, especially of mystery and science fiction books.
He was a lifelong member of Fairhope Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and was baptized on Palm Sunday 1956. Court was a committed Christian and was a kind, quiet soul. He will be missed by his family.
Court was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon H. Bodden, Jr. and Jeane Lowell Bodden; and his grandparents, Vernon H. Bodden, Sr. and Effie Hunter Bodden and his maternal grandparents, Gordon Lowell, Hazel Wharton Lowell Roberts.
He is survived by his sister, Karen (Steve) Urbanek of Fairhope; brother, Dr. M. Kirby Bodden, DMD, PhD, of Bay Minette; niece/goddaughter, LeighAnne (John) Chapman of Daphne; nieces and nephews, Philip (Zahra) Urbanek of Daphne, Jeremy (Katie) Bodden of Pensacola, Katy Bodden (Josh) Wren of Daphne and Sarah Lowell Bodden of Birmingham; great nieces and nephews, Emma Urbanek and Ian Morganthal, Blair and Hutton Chapman, Kai, Kaden and Declin Bodden and Finley, Lillie, Emory and Henry Wren; and sister-in-law, Ginger Nonnemacher Bodden of Fairhope.
A graveside service will take place at the Alabama Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, AL, at a date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Fairhope Christian Church Memorial Fund, 349 Fairwood Blvd., Fairhope, AL 36532.
