William Floyd de Shazo, IV, of Magnolia Springs, Alabama, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025, at the age of 69.

Born on January 28, 1956, in Mobile, Alabama, Bill—affectionately known as Billy to family and friends—lived a life full of joy, generosity, and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures. He found happiness in the outdoors, especially while fishing and hunting, he loved animals, and he took great pride in preparing delicious meals for the people he loved. A devoted music lover and storyteller, Bill’s presence brought warmth and laughter wherever he went.

Bill graduated from the University of Alabama in 1978, where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He later received a Masters of Public Health and Doctorate of Public Health from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. Bill lived in Birmingham, Alabama for 30 years.

His greatest joy came from being “Poppy” to his beloved grandchildren, Lillian Walker Brown, William Lee Brown, and Caroline Beatrice Brown of Charlotte, North Carolina and Adeline Morrow de Shazo and Clara Kathryn de Shazo of Birmingham, Alabama.

Bill is survived by his cherished wife, Donna C. Lee; his beloved children, Elizabeth de Shazo Brown (Michael) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and William Floyd de Shazo, V (Hayley) of Vestavia Hills, Alabama; and his brother, David Coleman de Shazo of Mobile, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha Coleman de Shazo and Dr. William Floyd de Shazo III, and by his brothers, Stephen Lee de Shazo and John Godbold de Shazo.

Bill’s legacy of love and unwavering devotion to family will live on in all who had the gift of knowing him.
