William Paterson, 71, born in Chicago, IL and a resident of Daphne for the past 6 _ years, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 19, 2012.

Mr. Paterson taught high school social studies for 36 years, many of those at Proviso West High School in Hillsdale, IL. He earned his B.S. at Illinois State University where he was a member of Pi Gamma Mu. He received his masters degree from Northern Illinois University.

Mr. Paterson enjoyed reading and gardening and caring for his beloved dogs.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Ann Reese and granddaughter, Michelle.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years on September 14, Jean M. Paterson; daughter, Dawn Marie Bennett of Daphne; son, Kirk William (Nok) Paterson of Honolulu, HI; brother, John Andrew Paterson of Geneva, IL; four grandchildren, Crystal, Joshua, Adam and Kailee, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
