William Michael (Mike) Scanland, Sr, a native of Mobile and long-time resident of Daphne, went home to be with his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, March 22, in the blink of an eye. Mike passed away at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope following a massive heart attack.
Mike was a sensitive and compassionate man who loved people and all animals and birds. He never met a stranger and loved every person he met. Conversation was easy for him, even with people that he had just met.
Mike was passionate about many things in his life. First, he loved his Lord, Jesus Christ, and his family and home. His family was his first passion, followed closely by his friends and brothers in Christ. He loved his Church and was deeply committed to Kairos Prison Ministry. Possibly a close third was Alabama football, followed by an amazing love of music of all types. He was a man who could do most anything, but he especially loved to work with wood.
Mike was a very intelligent man and was especially proud to have earned a master’s degree, in the face of incredible adversity. He also loved poetry and song lyrics and was a prolific writer and published poet.
Mike was proceeded in death by his mother, JoAnn Crivellari Scanland, his father, William Joseph Scanland, as well as by his beloved uncle, Melvin Crivellari.
Mike is survived by his wife, Patricia Marcet Scanland; his children, William Michael Scanland, Jr. and Ashley Griesert; and his granddaughter, Makayla. He is also survived by his beloved sisters, Laurie Scanland and Ashley Scanland; his beloved aunts, Margaret Ivey and Reba Crivellari; and by a host of special cousins and other relatives, as well as by many special friends. He will be missed by so many because he so easily loved and always saw the best in others. He will also be missed by his special pets, Diamond, Piglet, Gremmy, and Fluffy Cat. While he loved them all, Diamond was his special girl, and she already misses her belly rubs. Daddy was always so patient.
A service of remembrance and celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at 1:00pm at Church of the Apostles,7159 McIntyre Street in Montrose, AL. His ashes will be spread at the Memory Garden at the Church at some time in the future. Expressions of love and condolence for the family can be made to www.hughesfh.com – Hughes Funeral Home in Daphne, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, please remember Mike through gifts to Church of the Apostles, Kairos Prison Ministry, or the Light of the Village. Please address all gifts to Church of the Apostles and note which ministry you would like for your gift to support.
In Loving Memory
