With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Larry Wayne “Wayne” McBride, 78, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Wayne’s positivity, strength, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Born and raised in Wilmer, Alabama, Wayne was a proud member of the inaugural graduating class of 1966 at Mary G. Montgomery High School. Through hard work and perseverance, he put himself through college, attending Livingston College and the University of South Alabama, where he excelled both in the classroom and on the basketball court.
After decades of working with law firms in Mobile, Wayne founded his own company, DirecManagement, which he proudly owned and operated for 22 years. Retirement gave him more time to embrace the things he loved most: spending time with family and friends, meeting new people while traveling the world, woodworking, fishing, antiquing, and tinkering with his vintage Jeep and Mustang. When he wasn’t watching Auburn football, Wayne could often be found with his guitar in hand, strumming the classic rock favorites he loved. In recent years, he especially enjoyed reconnecting with his Sigma Nu fraternity brothers from the University of South Alabama and took great pride in helping support efforts to reestablish the chapter on campus.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Helen McBride and Chester “Mac” McBride; his adopted mother, Kay McBride; his parents-in-law, Herman and Maylene Pridgen; his sisters-in-law, Becky (Lundy) McBride and Sharon (Pridgen) Gros; and his beloved dog, Tobie.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Kathy McBride; his daughters, Lauren (McBride) Ginder and her husband, Casey Ginder, Katie (McBride) Hamilton and her husband, Ryan Hamilton; his cherished granddaughters, Kennedy and Kinzley Hamilton; his siblings, Terry McBride and Cheryl (Gary) McBride Sims; his brothers-in-law, Randy (Katrina) Pridgen and Ronald (Vikki) Pridgen; and many nieces and nephews.
Many of Wayne’s happiest moments were spent surrounded by family and friends at their homes on Wolf Bay and in Blue Ridge. Gatherings filled with laughter, stories, picking crabs, frying mullet and apple picking won’t be the same without him.
Please join the family for a celebration of Wayne’s life on Saturday, October 3, from 3:00-5:00pm at The Balcony in Fairhope, Alabama located at 300 Fairhope Ave, Fairhope, AL 36532.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to ZERO Prostate Cancer, an organization dedicated to improving and saving lives affected by prostate cancer, in honor of Wayne’s memory.
Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL, is assisting the family. Online condolences for the family may be made at www.hughesfh.com.
