Tribute

Peggy Renfroe DeWine, age 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 4, 2026. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, author, and mentor who left an indelible mark on everyone she met.

Born in Summerville, Georgia, the youngest of five children. Peggy was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas and Grace Renfroe. For the past 30 years, she made her home in Locust Grove, Georgia, where she was a member of the Jackson Presbyterian Church in Jackson, Georgia.

Peggy’s true masterpiece was her large, loving family. She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews and nothing brought her greater joy than spending time surrounded by them.

Beyond her family, Peggy’s life was defined by her profound love for the written word. She was a prolific writer who authored books, short stories, poems, and articles for the local newspaper and was featured in the Henry Magazine. Her passion extended far beyond her own work; she was deeply dedicated to nurturing the creativity of others. Peggy was the founding member of the Heritage Writer’s Club in McDonough, Georgia, and spearheaded several other book-writing groups, most recently meeting with fellow writers in Jackson, Georgia. Everyone who knew Peggy knew of her passion for writing and her endless encouragement of others to find their own creative voices.

Peggy is survived by her four children, Kelly (Mark) Denton, Jerry Michael (Linda) DeWine, Holly (Paul) Crum and Mitzi (Steve) West. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, Luke (Julie) Denton, Matthew (Katie) Denton, David (Erin) Denton, Chelsea (Chad) Fischer, Will (Elaina) Crum, Caleb (Paola) Crum, Joel Crum, Jackson (Kelley) West, Emily (Avry) Dobbs, and Natalie West. Her legacy continues through her 13 great-grandchildren, Anna Cate Denton, Adler Denton, Piper Denton, Penelope Denton, Sam Denton, Levi Denton, James Denton, Rylee Reid, Emma Fischer, Savannah Fischer, Baker Crum, Emilia Crum, and Oliver West.
