Robert Gaylord Tuttle, 68, passed away on October 17, 2026, in Fairhope, Alabama.
Born in Sacramento, California, to George Tuttle and the late Frances Gibbens, Robert grew up as an Air Force brat, living in various states and countries during his childhood. Among all the places his family moved, none held a more special place in his heart than Guam. Throughout his life, Robert would fondly regale anyone who would listen with stories of his youthful adventures on the island—sailing, diving, and spearfishing alongside his siblings, Terry, Peter, and Steve, and close friend, John Gartman.
After those blissful years in Guam, Robert and his companions traded their time as beach bums for a new era as ski bums, completing their undergraduate degrees at the University of Nevada, Reno. It was there that he met the love of his life, Cynthia Reeves. Together, Robert and Cynthia embarked on new adventures across Hawaii, California, New Zealand, and Maryland as they built their life and family.
Robert earned an MBA in New Zealand and dedicated his professional life to a long, impactful career as an environmental engineer, specializing in wastewater treatment plants. Outside of his work, he loved to sail and play guitar – whether jamming alongside Pete or playing lullabies for his kids. He later made his home along the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay in Fairhope, Alabama, moving there to be close to his brother Peter and his family.
Robert is survived by his father, George Tuttle (Sharon); his four children, Corina Smith (Craig), Rebecca Chapman (Thomas), David Tuttle (Madeleine Grewell), and Nicole Tuttman (Ashley Benjamin); his six granddaughters and one great-granddaughter; his siblings, Terry Tuttle, Peter Tuttle (Nancy), and Steve Tuttle (Dolores); as well as his extended family and friends.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation arrangements are being handled by Hughes Funeral Home and Crematory in Daphne, Alabama. A memorial service will be held by his children in California, where his ashes will be returned to the sea.

I think Jimmy Buffett sang it best – “It’s Been a Lovely Cruise” Robert. You are much loved and will be greatly missed.
