Janet Pauline Keener passed away peacefully to rest in God’s loving care on Monday, April 13, 2026, at the age of 87.
Janet grew up the middle child of seven and enjoyed her siblings as friends. She married at the age of 19 and began to have a family. She had three children and loved being a mother.
Janet had different professions throughout the years but the one she enjoyed the most was being a preschool teacher. Her heart and gifts were especially for the three-year olds and four-year olds. She loved how their young minds worked and their blooming personalities. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren and helping them along the way.
Janet was also a wonderful friend to have. She was always honest, patient, generous and kind. Her greatest love though was our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, which she came to know so intimately and her relationship with Him touched the hearts and lives of so many.
She and her husband John were married 63 years before the Lord called him. Before the Lord called Janet home, she spent the last six years of her life at Diversicare of Foley Skilled Nursing Home where she made so many friends and adopted the staff as her own family. She was active in their community of good people and was voted the president of the residents which she accepted with great honor. She attended every council meeting and helped to make that little world a better place.
God blessed Janet with a very special candle that was lit with His beautiful flame in her heart and she let it Shine! Now we can rejoice in her crown and celebration in Heaven.
Janet is preceded in death by beloved husband, John E. Keener, Sr. and her parents, Floyd and Margaret Brooker.
She is survived by her children, John E. Keener, Jr., of Florida, Brian F. Keener of Bay Minette, AL, and Brenda (Gary) Black of Daphne, AL; her grandchildren, Jared Keener, Zachary Keener, Jake Keener, Stone Keener, Mark Keener, Joshua Keener, Justin Black, Amanda Brady and Matthew Black; thirteen great-grandchildren; along with other family members and many wonderful friends.
A service to celebrate the life of Janet will be held at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL, on Saturday, April 25, 2026. There will be a time of visitation beginning at 2PM, followed by the service at 3PM, with a reception to follow.
Interment will take place at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, AL, at a later date.
Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL, is assisting the family.
Mrs. Janet will truly be missed. I’ve know her for the six years she was at Diversicare. I take it personally when she would say “ you are my favorite, we been together for a long time”. You will be missed momma Janet”.. my prayers are for her family and the many lives she touched. Job well done, now get your rest. I love you always.
She was definitely a good person she loved me and my daughter very much lords knows she was everything to us I’m truly gonna miss her not a day I don’t think about her just not the same anymore I’m so glad I got to tell her I loved her before she passed she will always have a special place in my heart we love you so much always and forever
Miss Keener was a very beautiful person, I worked at Diversicare and she always was pleasant with me despite when I entered her room I couldn’t get outta there she would have me in there in deep interesting conversation, or showing me pictures of her family or we would be talking about a book she read, I really like spending time with her, she’s definitely earned her wings.
